goodolbuddy This is one of those albums that can be played 3x in a row on repeat and still sound fresh. As the album description states the songs are to the point and nothing more, succinct perfection every last track though I will choose my favorite even though it's hard. The Whack Lack series is about artists creating their own battlewax record, with tunes designed to work in their own right, as well as giving scratch DJs and vocalists some new material to work with. The battlewax concept is to keep it simple yet effective, focussing on the right hook with the right beat and nothing more. By encouraging a variety of artists to work on the series they can each find their own sound within it, and have a different outlet for their creativity that doesn’t revolve around dance floors and mix down tech. First up we have ‘Whack Lack Vol. 1’ from Seppa featuring a selection of beats to cut to, spit to, live your life to.

Denni leans back and sparks one up. It’s brutal outside but not point stressing about what you can’t control. Much better to focus on achievable goals, gotta nail that cut today. She leans forward, gets up and steps over to the mixer leaving pockets of chaos in the dense smokey air filling the room. Wiping the mixer clear of the slime from her last attempt, she hits play on the right turntable and when the beat drops cuts something fierce until her arm cramps up. She stares at the ceiling and thinks, “Ahh I’ll get it tomorrow,” before taking one more drag and passing out.
